Directorships

According to the UZH Employment Ordinance, the Executive Board of the University appoints the heads and directors of institutes/departments, clinics and other organizational units, on the basis of prior nominations submitted by the institute or department assembly with the approval of faculty leadership.

What To Do

Proposals for the appointment of a new head, or the extension of the existing head’s term of office, are submitted to the Executive Board of the University via official channels (the dean’s office of the faculty in question; in the case of joint institutes, both faculties must be included).

Function-Based Allowance

As a rule, an allowance is paid for heads or directors in accordance with the Regulations on Function-Based Allowances. The amount of the function-based allowance depends on the the number of posts within the institute, department or clinic. The number of posts – expressed as full-time equivalents – must be stated in the proposal for the appointment of a new head or the extension of the existing head's term of office. It also includes professorships and externally funded and SNSF appointments. The function-based allowance is paid at the same level for the entire term of office and is not adjusted to any change in headcount until the head is reappointed, or a new head appointed.
