The employment of professors at UZH may be terminated by notice with effect at the end of an academic semester (31 January and 31 July). The notice period is 12 months (§ 19 of the Employment Ordinance of the University of Zurich (PVO-UZH)). Should the professor wish to leave UZH before the end of this 12-month period, a request for their employment relationship to be dissolved early by mutual consent must be submitted via official channels to the Executive Board of the University.
Assistant professors are entitled to leave the University at the end of an academic semester without observing a notice period (§ 19 para. 3 PVO-UZH).
Professors with a clinical role are asked to send their notice of termination or request to have their employment relationship dissolved early by mutual consent to the hospital management concerned, in addition to the Executive Board of the University.
The Executive Board’s decision will be communicated in the form of a President’s Circular.
